To set up Wake-on-LAN (WoL), you must configure your computer’s hardware (BIOS/UEFI) and operating system to listen for a “Magic Packet” while powered off or in sleep mode. Phase 1: Enable WoL in the BIOS/UEFI
Before the operating system loads, your motherboard must be configured to keep power flowing to the network card.
Reboot your PC and repeatedly tap the BIOS key during startup (typically Delete, F2, F10, or F12). Navigate to the Advanced or Power Management tab.
Locate and Enable settings labeled Wake on LAN, Power on by PCIe, Resume on LAN, or Power Management Event (PME).
Disable ErP Ready (or EuP 2013) if visible, as this eco-mode completely cuts power to network ports. Press F10 to save changes and exit. Phase 2: Configure Your Operating System
Choose the guide matching your operating system below to configure your network adapter properties: For Windows 10 & Windows 11
Right-click the Start menu and open the Windows Device Manager.
Expand Network adapters and double-click your primary Ethernet Controller.
Go to the Advanced tab, scroll to Wake on Magic Packet, and set its value to Enabled.
Go to the Power Management tab and check both Allow this device to wake the computer and Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer.
Disable Windows Fast Startup via the Control Panel power button options to ensure the network card remains listening after a shutdown.
